i had quite an ambitious to-do list last sunday: put the laundry away, whittle
down my "needs hemming" pile, pack for my upcoming 3-day weekend in the
hamptons, keep track of the Yankees game - all while simultaneously watching
Public Enemies (Johnny Depp and Christian Bale on screen together - hello!!),
the latest arrival from Netflix.
here's what i did instead: got hit with a strong case of cabin fever and went
out for a short walk - instantly felt better outdoors. on my way back from the
coffee shop i grabbed the latest (first?) issue of Industrie magazine. i highly
recommend it, tons of great interviews, including a very insightful one with
Tommy Ton of
Jak and Jil. There is also an article on Rick Owens and his
workout ethic. what is it about designers (Rick Owens, Marc Jacobs) trading
substance addiction for gym addiction? at the very least, now they both have
nice pecs to show off in those uber-tight Rick Owens tanks!

naturally with my new distraction very little got checked off my to-do list.
monday morning rolled around and i had to rummage through laundry bags to
find an outfit for work since i neglected to put everything away. blah.

thrifted lumberjack shirt; AG Jeans distressed boyfriend shorts (better
pictures here); Tod's patent leather driving mocs
i did manage to cross one thing off my to-do list. remember
this post? a
reader had lamented the absence of a certain skirt on my blog, and i informed
everyone that i was young and stupid and thought i could save on dry cleaning
by washing it in water. well, big mistake. i thought it was ruined forever but
held onto it anyway. good thing i did! apparently i am not the only idiot who
disregards "dry clean only" because there was an entry on yahoo! answers on
how to unshrink silk chiffon. basically you spray the silk with a bit of water
(ironic since that's what ruined it in the first place...) then "relax" the
fibers with an iron on very low heat setting.
below is a picture of the process in progress. you can see one of the chiffon
panels in its sad shrunken state towards the top on the ironing board, and the
un-shrunk panel towards the bottom - notice how much it expanded!

i think it worked! yay! i might do a second round to relax the fibers a bit
more. the texture is still completely different but it is a major improvement!

now i just have to figure out what i used to wear underneath it. i don't think
i was enough of a ho to walk out with just skimpy nude undies, but maybe i
was... i think a trip to American Apparel is in order before the skirt makes
its comeback.
ok, now i really must pack for that 3-day weekend!! almost done though...

just have to roll everything (trust me, it's the best space-saving technique
ever) and stuff it in a bag!!

well, this long post should keep you all occupied throughout the weekend.
have a good one!!
